FG Partners Oyo Govt. To Train Farmers On Agricultural Value Chain

In order to make Nigeria’s Agro Products marketable in the international markets, about 100 farmers in Oyo State have been given a day sensitization on how best to overcome challenges associated with agricultural value chain.
The event which was organized by Nigeria competitiveness project, federal ministry of trade and investment in collaboration with oyo state government target value chain in tomato, chilli, pepper, ginger leather and garment.
The programme not only reviewed performance of Nigeria competitiveness project of federal government but also provided an opportunity for farmers in the state to xray myriads of challenges confronting them.
Addressing the farmers, the executive director, oyo state agric business development agency, Dr debo Akande said Oyo state has the potential to generate commercial quantity of tomato, pepper, chilli and ginger adding that about 9,000 farmers in oyo state have been empowered by the current administration in the state.
 The NICOP Project Coordinator, Federal Ministry Of Trade And Investment, Alhaji Aliyu Abubarkar represented by a Deputy Director In The Ministry, Dr Inyang Arit said tomato is highly demanded in the world if the right approach is given to its production in the state.
Alhaji Abubarkar urged farmers in the state to leverage on the programme to meet the goal of NICOP.
Some farmers appealed to federal government and the project facilitator to address the problem of herdsmen and funds to practice irrigation so as to produce tomato all year round.
