Postpone LG Elections, Alao-Akala Tells Makinde

Former Governor of Oyo state and Chairman, Elders Advisory Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Oyo state, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala has urged the Oyo state Governor, Mr. Seyi Makinde to postpone the forthcoming local government election scheduled for the third week of May, 2021 to a later date in order to protect the sanctity of the nation’s developing democracy. Alao-Akala gave this advice while reacting to the supreme court judgement that invalidated the sack of the duly elected 33 local Government area chairmen in Oyo state. BREAKING: Supreme Court declares dissolution of local governments in Oyo illegal

The Supreme Court on Friday declared the dissolution of local government administrations in Oyo State and their replacement with caretaker committees as illegal. The Association of Local Government Of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo State chapter, had appealed the judgment of the Appeal Court in Ibadan sacking chairmen of local governments and Local Council Development Areas in the state by Governor Seyi Makinde. The chairmen operating under the auspices of the ALGON elected in 2018 were sacked on May 29, 2019 by Governor Makinde.

Kidnapped Hotelier, wife, children, others regain freedom

The owner of Agbo Hotel in Lagbedu in Oyo State, Oyedokun Oyeniyi; his wife, Busayo Oyedokun, and seven others including their children that were kidnapped by unknown gunmen, have regained their freedom. OT had earlier reported that the gunmen stormed the hotel on Saturday night, April 24 and abducted the victims. Confirming their release, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Adewale Osifeso, said “Yes, they have been released,” he said. Osifeso did not, however, disclose whether ransom was paid before the release of the victim.
