Raph Afonja Foundation supports students with bursary allocation

In a bid to support the less privileged students with funds for their tertiary education, Raph Afonja Foundation, founded by Prof. Raphael Afonja, disbursed a sum of N500,000 bursary to students of Ogbomosho and its environment.

The beneficiaries of the bursary, which was disbursed to enhance the level of learning of indigenous student in various tertiary institutions across the country were students from Ogbomosho South, Ogbomosho North and Orire Local Government Areas of Oyo state.

Speaking on the gesture, the CEO and founder, Prof. Raphael Afonja Afonja disclosed that no fewer than 100 students from the mandated areas benefited from the bursary.

According to him, those who benefited are students who currently resides in Ogbomosho or those who indigenous to the city but are studying in other tertiary institutions across the country. Giving the breakdown, The money given was to reduce the financial burden on their parents and expect the students to spend the money wisely on things that would have a positive impact on their education,” he said.

Afonja said “Our aim is to touch the lives of as many students as possible in their pursuit of education”. The foundation will also organise skill acquisition support programs that will lead to workforce development and jobs and will also encourage companies to come and invest in our communities.

The chairman of the occasion, the Dean of student affairs, LAUTECH, Prof Tunde Olabiyisi who was represented by Dr Adewale, former HOD Mathematics distributed the cash to the benefiting students. He urged the students to use the money to better their education and contribute to the development of their communities.

Mr. Idowu Oluwafemi, the National President of FOGSU on behalf of all the students appreciates Prof. Afonja for investing into their lives which he sincerely did by admitting the fact that Prof. Raph Afonja is a philanthropist per excellence.

The award ceremony which was held at the Jokodolu Hall, ogbomosho, Oyo State on Saturday 25th Nov, 2017, was graced by Hon. Gorge Ogunlade , Alh Owonikoko, Apostle Amoyeegun, and Dr Afonja (the biological father of Prof Afonja). In addition, Hon. Taiwo Alagbe, Hon. Jide Oketunbi Commissioner public complaints commission, Hon. Taofeek Alalubarika, Alh. Toskay, Hon Sanjo Adedoyin, Alhaja Rainbow, Mrs Amole ,FOGSU National President and Senate President.
