Oyo 2019: Adelabu, Makinde Emerge APC, PDP Governorship Candidates

All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant and former Central Bank of Nigeria Deputy Governor, Chief Adebayo Adelabu and Engr Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have emerged flag bearers of both parties  in the 2019 governorship polls in Oyo State.

Both candidates emerged from delegates election which held simultaneously on Sunday at the Lekan Salami Stadium and the Obafemi Awolowo stadium, primaries venue respectively.
At the APC governorship primaries three out of the seven contenders of the governorship ticket, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe touted as Governor Abiola Ajimobi anointed candidate, Dr Olushola Ayandele fondly called “Eruobodo” and Dr Babalola Owolabi willingly stepped down for Adelabu grandson of a popular politician, Adegoke Adelabu  fondly called “Penkelemesi” (peculiar mess) saying they did so in the interest, unity and progress of the party.
Two other contenders, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala a former governor of the state and Dr Azeez Adeduntan a former Commissioner in the Governor Ajimobi cabinet boycotted the election while Chief Niyi Akintola SAN insisted on having a full primary only to pull out after voting had commenced.

Alao-Akala, on Saturday, earlier announced that he would not be part of the primaries, saying Governor Ajimobi had perfected strategy to impose Olasunkanmi Tegbe on the party.

On the other hand, Seyi Makinde polled 2,772 votes to defeat Senator Ayo Adeseun who polled 21 votes to clinch the PDP’s ticket.
